Memoria Cultural Foundation<\/b> was created in 1991 as an NGO meant to promote Human Rights and civic values and to transmit the memory of political persecutions perpetrated by communist regime in Romania.<\/i><\/p>\n
In the last 20 years, Memoria Cultural Foundation<\/b> published the Memoria<\/i> magazine and more than 20 books on politics and memory, on communism and political persecutions and a few memoirs and journals of former political detainees and deportees. Memoria<\/i> magazine\u2019s collaborators are among the most important intellectuals and artists of today Romania: Serban Papacostea, Ana Blandiana, Andrei Pipiddi, Romulus Rusan, Camilian Demetrescu, etc.<\/p>\n
Memoria Cultural Foundation<\/b> is also involved in organizing conferences (such as, \u201eColocviile de la Beclean\u201d, Simpozionul Interna\u0163ional \u201eExperimentul Pite\u015fti-reeducarea prin tortur\u0103\u201d) and debates on the topics of Human Rights, political persecutions, deportation, civic responses to present-day societal problems, etc.<\/p>\n
In 2010, Memoria Cultural Foundation<\/b> together with Civic Academy Foundation<\/b> gained a grant from the European Commission, through its Programme, \u201cEurope for citizens\u201d, Action 4, \u201cActive European Memory\u201d, with a project entitled \u201cMemory of deportation in Romania\u201d. Meant to make visible the topic of deportation in Romania during communism, the project was a big success. The exhibition, \u201cBlack Whitsuntide. Baragan deportation\u201d was displayed in Bucharest, Braila, Sighet, and at the European Parliament.<\/p>\n
